Visit the Proenneke Cabin at Twin Lakes

DSC_5056

This historic cabin was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.  The Richard Proenneke National Historic Site is a well-known example of an Alaskan bush log cabin.

Step into Dick’s cabin and step into the home of one of Alaska’s foremost wilderness icons.  His cabin, made wildly popular by the book One Man’s Wilderness and PBS special Alone in the Wilderness, is managed as a “hands on” outdoor exhibit by the National Park Service. It is staffed by Lake Clark National Park Volunteers throughout the summer months.

While visiting, sit at his writing desk and enjoy the view of Upper Twin Lake, hike to Teetering Rock, walk down the beach to Hope Creek, and be sure to get a picture of yourself in the famous Dutch Door of the cabin.

Twin Lakes is only accessible by floatplane during the summer, contact The Farm Lodge and Lake Clark Resort for pricing and availability.
